BELGRADE, Serbia ● Police say Kuwait national team soccer coach Goran Tufegdzic has been shot in his native Serbia and is in critical condition.
Police in the central town of Pozarevac said Sunday that Tufegdzic was shot on Friday in the chest by his neighbor after an argument over a plot of land. He was taken to a Belgrade hospital in serious condition.
Tufegdzic, a 41-year old Serbian citizen spending holidays in his hometown of Pozarevac, was shot in the thorax. He underwent surgery but has still remained in a critical condition, hospital sources told the daily Vecernje Novosti.
His attacker, an 86-year-old neighbour, was arrested.
After playing for a local club Mladi Radnik Pozarevac, Tufegdzic became its coach. He was later appointed for an assistant coach for Kuwait’s national squad, before replacing his superior in 2009.
In 2010, the squad won the Golf Cup and Western Asian Championship.
