STOCKHOLM, Sweden ● Sweden women’s coach Thomas Dennerby has decided to call it quits, ending a seven-year tenure that saw his team clinch the bronze medal in the 2011 World Cup.
Dennerby did not give a reason Wednesday for his departure, saying only that the decision to leave on Sept. 15 – two months before his contract expired – is his own.
Sweden lost to France in the quarterfinals of the London Olympics.
Dennerby’s replacement is undecided, but in an interview with Swedish news agency TT last year, US coach Pia Sundhage was quoted as saying she would be interested.
